Are their recent examples of this kind of action? Of a leader choosing suicide as a form of protest and statement of resistance in the face of failure I was thinking about maybe Alleande in Chile going down fighting in the face of the coup in Chile. I would be interested to hear other peoples opinions
I think even a life of suffering can have its meaning. I’ve read about how prisoners in the Russian Gulag were put into solitary confinement for periods of up to 2 years or more, and they were able to bear their circumstances by practicing their respective disciplines such as poetry and mathematics. As Aristotle said, “Education is an ornament in prosperity and a refuge in adversity”.

I think there are some examples in the business community in Japan, but nothing else I can think of.
A great book!

Indeed, for the Stoics every life is worth living, so long as one exercises virtue. See also Viktor Frankl's famous book: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/4069.Man_s_Search_for_Meaning
Mort, appreciate it. Better find Stoicism late in life than not at all!
