My condolences to you, and Kens family and friends. I hope writing this tribute brings you some peace. Thank you for this tribute. You have spread Kens influence now to me, and many others. To continue to help spread his influence, is there one of his books in particular that you recommend?
Thank you for your response! Your work has influenced me greatly, beginning when a mentor shared Non-sense On Stilts. You also introduced me to Stoicism. You are one of my intellectual hero's and I thank you.
Although a private note in your diary can be for your own benefit, a public note like this has the extra benefit of bringing to mind, especially for those who did not know the person, the values that this person's life embodied. Ken Frazier was an inspiration to you. Being an inspiration is not an abstraction - it comes from having a life well lived. A public note helps the rest of us by emphasizing why this person was inspiring, so that we can, in our turn, be inspired to be of use to humankind and live a life worth living. Thank you for this encomium.
Never met Ken in person, but growing up in the Four Corners, and having hiked all the main sites at Chaco, and besides Mesa Verde and Canyon de Chelly, also having done a few of the slightly less common Anasazi sites, I also remember him as a writer about and photographer of their world.
Lovely. Although I’m not sure about the phrase - “doesn’t exist anymore.” Clearly he exists now as much as he ever has. Matter doesn’t disappear and as for spirit - here we are talking about him. He exists now for me for the first time as your tribute introduced him to me... the butterfly wings flapped... who knows where the ripples go. Evermore.
Agree, what we “know” and what we don’t know is a subjective knowledge. A good dose of objective humility as to ultimate knowing can also be acknowledged
Karima, I hear you, and I'm certainly not arguing that Ken's death violated the principle of conservation of matter/energy. But his consciousness, I believe, did not survive the event of his passing, so in a very important point "he doesn't;t exist anymore."

Jordan, I have made a note of buying his forthcoming one, which is mentioned in my essay. It will be a nice contribution to his memory.
But in the meanwhile, I'd say this one: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6549022-science-under-siege

Lovely tribute. Thank you Massimo. Your post is not just for you, but for all of us who remain here for awhile longer.
Appreciated, Glenn!
He was a formative influence on so many and will be missed by so many devotees of his work across generations. Thank you for your memorial.

Thank you for bringing Ken and his life so well lived to life this morning. Very loving tribute.
Thanks for sharing this very moving tribute. It sounds like he has big shoes to fill at SI. And of course, unfillable shoes in his personal life.
I don't know who the next editor will be, but yeah, impossible to replace in kind.
