Cicero is so an important source for Stoicism and Epicureanism.

The Epicureans made a detailed analyses of his "On Ends" to defend against his criticism of Epicurean Philosophy (seems he doesn´t understood kastatematic Pleasure which is more like value judgment/ataraxia and Cicero seems to limit Pleasure to only sensual kinetic Pleasure) .

Is there something similar for the Stoic critics of him ?

For who is interested in the anaysis/discussion of the first 2 books about Epicurean Philosophy here is the podcast (from august 2023 onwards) (available on most podcast platforms ):

Thanks Matthias. I'm not aware of a direct Stoic response to Cicero's criticism in the ancient sources, but that doesn't mean much, since most ancient sources have been lost.

As for Epicureanism, I don't think Cicero didn't understand the concept of katastematic pleasures. He just didn't think those are reasonably classed as pleasures. In modern terms, he thought that the Epicureans were making a category mistake.

Thank you. This was a great video

As a humorous aside it was interesting to observe 2 University Professors/ Lecturers explaining their concerns about a political movement with an anti-intellectual bias. I would say don’t worry too much Gentlemen I don’t think the West is at the Khmer Rouge Year Zero stage, at least not yet 😊

Ah, but how do you think the Khmer Rouge got started?... 😃

I have lamented (as Stoically as possible) the end of the Philosophy as a Way of Life podcast and find these equally as enjoyable.🙏
